I have personally been lead to believe that a sweetener called Xylitol was calorie free as well as sugar free – which it probably is. However, the real issue is what happened when I blissfully spread this lovely tasting sugar everywhere to make the taste better. Well. For starters, I put on weight, the weight that I was trying to lose, and I did not know why. Having read further articles on this I have found that this sweetener, probably all of them as well as sugar, can interfere with the microbiome, the gut flora and activate the bad bacteria or parasites or whatever, and these gut critters have a resistance to changing their habitat. They create more gunk in your gut making you fat resistant. So, really, the only way to do this successfully, is to cut down on ALL types of sugars and eventually eliminate.
